I popped into Ray’s for a light bite one evening after work. In my other reviews I have always decried the “style over substance” mentality of many European restaurants in Bombay, however Ray’s is a far cry from this. Humble and meek, Ray’s has the feel of a charming Italian Trattoria. It was nice to be able to see the pizza oven on full display too.
Now food wise, I only popped in for a light bite, so we tried the Mediterranean and the Blue Cheese Salad. The Mediterranean salad was simple and well-executed – commendable. The Blue salad did leave a lot to be desired. The hard morsels of sugar coated walnuts were a reprehensible inclusion. As for the blue cheese dressing, I am still left baffled as to where the blue cheese came into the picture. It was just a run of the mill sweet and creamy dressing.
I realise I’m being a little harsh reviewing a Pizzeria solely on the basis of its salad, so I will return to sample the pizza at some stage and come back with my thoughts. Nevertheless, if the salads are anything to go by, it could be a “hit or miss” experience!
